I am excited to report that a there is some cool stuff happening in Portland for a few nights early next week (and every other night it seems), first up on Monday 10/27/08 at the Clinton St. Theater is a chance to catch a film directed by touring filmmaker James June Schneider called 1,2,3 Whiteout: The End of the Light Age. I remember seeing the description for it when I was at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam in 2007 but for whatever reason I unfortunately ended up missing it. Well, Monday night I am going to finally see it and what's even cooler is that the following evening the filmmaker will be performing in a musical/visual combo that brings together El Mapi + Matterlink and is known as VIDEOLOVE to the awesome Rererato art space in NE PDX! Oh hell yes.
Hope to see you all out there!

Rose City Revue report
Just got back into PDX from a mighty nice trip to Seattle as guests of the Northwest Film Forum's "Local Sightings" series. Several of the Odds and Ends folks showed up including Peter Hermes and Diana Bayless of Wideshot Studios, (Director and Producer of The Mixtress) Tripper Dungan of Ice Cream Truck Face (Animator and director of The Astro Project) and Grace Carter (Director of Future Series 1-3 and Eldorado) with whom I shared a very nice ride up to Seattle with on the Amtrak.
The opening night party was an absolute blast and as soon as I find the connecting cord for my digi cam I will post some up, it's safe to say Seattleites know how to get down!
Other than that I got to meet some really cool folks and see some sweet films and videos, a standout was bumping into animator Stephan Gruber who was kind enough to give me a DVD with two really rad shorts called "Petting Zoo 1&2", his screening was on Monday night so unfortunately I had to miss it but I am going to be on the lookout for this man's work as it is REALLY SUPERB STUFF!
Also I got to hang out with my friend Salise Hughes and also saw her new film "The Tourist" I really enjoy Salises' approach to filmmaking, and even although Salise is working her particular magic digitally her approach owes much in it's style to direct filmmaking techniques invented and employed by pioneering experimental filmmakers such as Stan Brakhage and Phil Solomon, stylistically I'd say that her work also recalls to mind some of the celluloid territories that handmade film maverick Naomi Uman has scratched the surface of, (I actually mastered Naomi's DVD for PDX based experimental film and video distro. co Peripheral Produce, you should really buy this DVD!) . Her latest film was very enjoyable as well as thought provoking, in "The Tourist" the protaganist of the 1973 film "The Tourist" starring Jack Nicholson is completely removed from his original filmic environment, Hughes effectively "erases" the background from Nicholson and he essentially is walking through a void. Metaphysical thought drifts abounded for me while viewing it and the overall effect was quite hypnotizing, looking forward to more amazing stuff to continue coming from this artist.
A special thanks goes out to everyone at the Northwest Film Forum for graciously hosting the Odds and Ends program, special shout out to Dave Hanagan for the initial invite and to Adam Sekular for the hook up on the hotel. Also be on the lookout Adam's upcoming long form film, I believe it was originally to be called "Stop, action, set" he told me the new name but I am currently spacing it, regardless what I saw was indredibly beautiful and I eagerly anticipate being able to watch it in it's finished state.
Here is a trailer for the Local Sightings Festival, a very nice nod to Bond and it looked fantastic up on the big screen. Also below I have put a few highlights from Odds and Ends V.5 "The Rose City Revue" Enjoy! Hope to see you all soon.
